Saoji Beckons

Looking forward to India vacation next month. Can't see no reason not to have Saoji Chicken in Nagpur. Last time I had it near Sai Temple on Wardha Road...

This time I am looking to go to the "original" Saoji folks.. I am assuming this is controversial, because everyone would claim their chain as original. Last time one of my cousin bro-in-laws (and I think I have like 50 of them) suggested we go to a place called Umred, which apparently has the original Saoji.. (I was like wtf... why should Umred have it?). But the dude seemed convinced and one thing I have learnt over the years in Nagpur - NEVER ARGUE - with a hard core Ngpite. It's waste of time and energy amongst other things. Just go with the flow...

Saoji's taste, IMO, is directly proportional to how un-sanitized the place is. If the pot, is really burnt and dirty, if the place is filled with the (perversely defined term) "unwashed masses", you are in for a good deal.

Cant' wait..

Pass on the address of whichever place you go to ... I'd visit too whenever I go next ...
and for the record ... I went to some place deep inside Itwari that only my cousin can direct to... it was good .. wooden benches and tables, unshapely steel plates, simple bhakri and mutton/chiken + rassa (unlimited servings) ... no pretense :)

I am so jealous of you now...

Yesterday itself we cooked some spicy dishes in memory of saoji...

and believe me your cousin was right, there are some real good saoji's on Umrer road. You can also at Mahal near that lake or head straight to Itwari and Panchpaoli...

ENJOY...

@bluebike : Yes Sir! I will certainly let you know.

@rohit : this is going in WIKI if it's not in there already. I owe you one Saoji for sure.

@aniruddha : Umrer road it is, then. I don't want to make it more difficult for you, but I have added a neat little pic of Saoji we made here. Enjoy :))

Is Saoji the really spicy chicken curry I had at your place?

Sounds almost like a dude's last name. :)

Had Saoji at this place called Rohit restaurant past the new VCA stadium on Wardha road. It's a shady joint where you can take your own liquour. And try Saoji mutton instead of chicken - it kicks ass. Chicken is the downgraded, civilized meat - saoji mutton is the real deal.

Rathachakra mate, Rohit is not saoji. The mutton is no-way near to saoji's taste. Please try Jagdeep at Loha-pul (Lokhandi pul near railway statio). Also, try Khoor instead of Mutton and you will feel the difference - Sandeep

Try the Suresh Saoji(Ambazari Road or Kamptee Road) and Khur is the best. One must be Tally(overdrunk) before eating Saoji.
The best one so far is one near Law College(hard to find..it is inside market and is very small place)
